Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
Learn More About how Gastric Sleeve Surgery can Benefit your Weight Loss Journey
For patients who have serious health issues and who have seen no success with traditional diet and exercise regimens, weight loss surgery may significantly improve your ability to lose weight. At his Wildomar practice, Dr. Francis Essien performs laparoscopic vertical gastrectomy surgery so that patients may achieve weight loss success.
What is a Laparoscopic Vertical Gastrectomy?
Also known as the "Sleeve," a laparoscopic vertical gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that restricts food intake, but does not affect food absorption by the intestines. The procedure is performed by removing a large portion of the stomach and forming the remaining stomach into a tubular shape (the sleeve).
This new sleeve is much smaller than the original stomach and acts to control how much and how quickly food can be eaten. The new, smaller stomach is similar in size to a banana and limits the amount of food you can eat by making you feel full after just a small amount of food.
We work with patients to achieve the best possible weight loss solution. During a scheduled consultation, patients should expect an examination of their BMI and overall health – this is how we recommend the most beneficial weight loss surgery. Patients will watch a video about their suggested procedure and are also encouraged to attend our educational seminars to learn more about healthy lifestyle changes.
